NILAJA SUN AND HOWARD SHERMAN: A CONVERSATION ON STAGING THE CHANGE

Nilaja Sun, Obie Award winning actress and playwright, speaks about her award winning solo works and process. She will be interviewed by Howard Sherman, prior Executive Director of The American Theatre Wing and current Director of the Arts Integrity Initiative at The New School College of Performing Arts.  The two discuss how we can inspire change and enable and inspire students to do the same. Q & A for students and teachers will follow.

Nilaja Sun is the writer/ solo performer of the Off-Broadway play “No Child...”, directed by Hal Brooks. “No Child…” had its initial run with Epic Theatre Ensemble followed by a year long run at the Barrow Street Theatre. Awards include: Obie, Helen Hayes, Lucille Lortel, and two Outer Critics Circle Awards including the John Gassner Playwriting Award for Outstanding New American Play. NYC theatre: The Commons of Pensacola, Einstein's Gift, Huck and Holden. TV/Film: Madam Secretary, BrainDead, The Good Wife, 30 Rock, Law & Order: SVU, Louie, and The International. Nilaja recently performed her newest critically acclaimed solo piece "Pike St.", commissioned by Epic and performed at the Abrons Arts Center. 

Howard Sherman
 is director of the Arts Integrity Initiative at The New School College of Performing Arts and interim director of the Alliance for Inclusion in the Arts. He has been executive director of the American Theatre Wing, executive director of the Eugene O’Neill Theatre Center, managing director of Geva Theatre, general manager of Goodspeed Musicals and public relations director of Hartford Stage. He is a columnist for The Stage in London and writes frequently on theatre and the arts. He blogs at both artsintegrity.org and hesherman.com, and tweets as @hesherman.
