NEWSPAPER THEATRE WORKSHOP

This interactive workshop will engage participants in Epic's model of making theatre from news articles about current social issues, using a combination of writing exercises, physical engagement, and improvisation.

Presented by

Melissa Friedman (Newspaper Theatre Workshop, Co-Founder & Artistic Director of Epic Theatre Ensemble, 2015 Panelist) As an actor, Melissa has performed in numerous Epic Off-Broadway productions including Hannah and Martin with David Strathairn, Einstein’s Gift with Aasif Mandvi, and A Hard Heart with Kathleen Chalfant as well as all of Epic’s “NEA Shakespeare for a New Generation” productions.  As a director, her credits include 13 Shakespeare Remix productions for which, on behalf of Epic, she received the 2009 National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award from First Lady Michelle Obama at the White House. As a teaching artist, she co-developed Epic’s Citizen Artist curriculum and currently acts as a Lead Teaching Artist in Epic’s partner schools and outreach programs.   As a professional developer, she has led workshops for teachers and artists throughout the Northeast at colleges and conferences.
