MOMENTS IN DANCE: HONORING TRAYVON MARTIN
This workshop will showcase a dance created by LIU Post Dance Professor Davyd Suber and the Post Dance Company in response to the 2012 Trayvon Martin shooting. Participants will learn about the choreographic process and will have the opportunity to create their own short dance pieces in relation to relevant social issues.
Presented byDavyd H. Suber, Jr. is a professor of Dance at Long Island University (Post Campus) where he also serves as co-director of The Post Concert Dance Company (PCDC). During his tenure at LIU Post, Mr. Suber has choreographed for PCDC, Post Theatre Company, Post Student Theatre Group, and he has taught classes in Jazz, Tap, Professional Skills, Musical Theatre and Acting. Davyd is a member of the Board of Directors of the American College Dance Festival Association, and produces the annual Spring Choreographers Showcase at Symphony Space in Manhattan. Sought out as a guest clinician, he has taught master classes at Penn State University, Texas A&M, Johns Hopkins University, College Of Brockport, Hofstra University and The Peabody Institute. His extensive regional/dinner theatre credits as a director and/or choreographer, include Smokey Joe's Café, Ain't Misbehavin', Damn Yankees, A Chorus Line, and Sophisticated Ladies. He has been a featured dancer in productions of Purlie, Kiss Of The Spiderwoman, 42nd Street, My One And Only, Hello Dolly, Evita, and Swing!. Davyd has appeared in the music videos of Mary Chapin Carpenter and James Ingram, and can be seen dancing in the record store scene in John Waters’ film, “Hairspray”.
