Transcending Language Prejudice
Through Movement

*Accessible for Spanish speakers. Live interpretation available.
In this workshop, participants will engage in a meaningful conversation about the experiences of being bilingual, having an accent, and how one is treated based on how they speak. Together, we will listen to each other's stories about how language impacts our lives and interactions. We will then explore these narratives through movement, creating movement phrases using props and other creative exercises.

This workshop draws inspiration from a solo piece by presenter Anna Mayta, developed with support from CREATE of Catskill, NY, that reflects the stories of the Latinx community in Hudson, NY, and her bilingual childhood in Chile.

The goal of this workshop is to recognize that language is a unifying force. By fostering mutual respect and empathy for the stories we share, we can let go of biases and understand that language is one of the most powerful tools that connect us.

Presented by...

Anna has taught and choreographed for The National Ballet of Zimbabwe, as well as in England, New York City, and the Boston area. Currently, she continues to teach, choreograph, and perform throughout the region.
