Telling Your Story: Defining Your Praxis

Praxis is informed action. It is not simply creating a poem, song, or play for its own sake, but action shaped by reflection, theory, and purpose. In this workshop, participants will:
  • Learn about Hip Hop culture, craft, and community
  • Collaborate to devise a performance piece using spoken word and rap
  • Explore the concept of artistic praxis
Come through for a serious conversation about why you do what you do—and to rock the cipher! Yes, that means freestyling may happen, so join only if you’re ready to put yourself out there.

Fabian "Farbeon" Saucedo is a Brooklyn-based emcee, DJ, producer, and photographer who has performed on stages, panels, and in classrooms worldwide. He uses his unique brand of “edu-tainment” to create transformative, community-driven Hip Hop workshops, events, and performances. A modern-day griot, Farbeon is dedicated to preserving and advancing genuine Hip Hop culture and community, fostering dialogue, building understanding, and inspiring the next generation of young global ARTivists. He is the Founding Director of the Hip Hop Re:Education Project and teaches Hip Hop Theater at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts.
The Hip Hop Re:Education Project is a creative youth development organization that engages communities in the artistic processes of Hip Hop culture, inspiring them to transform their world. We are committed to transforming the workshop space through the use of the “cipher,” emphasizing collaboration, communication and targeting social emotional learning competencies. We use an interdisciplinary approach to programming that engages multiple learning styles, improves youth engagement and responds to youth interests and culture. As well, we utilize digital media and project-based curricula to engage young people in the processes of story-telling and content-creation. reeducate.org
