Collective Bravery in Performance

A creative workshop built on the power of collaboration and coalition-building. Participants will theatrically explore what is possible when we come together while honoring our individual strengths. With intentionality, we can develop our own ideas, learn from others, build on their ideas, and strengthen our own. Through experiential theater games, free-form writing, improv, and storytelling, participants will create and present short collaborative performances in a variety of mediums. They will experience the power of using their own voices theatrically and creating together in real time.

Angelika Menendez  is a proud New York-based Latine actor/educator who graduated with her BFA from Emerson College. She is thrilled to be back at Stage the Change this year! Recent credits include Man of La Mancha (Antonia),  For Carmen in San Sebastian, Do You See... (The REV); Before We Focus on Others (Teatro Chelsea), and other cabarets and new works in NYC. She is also a teaching artist with New York City Center, Houses on the Moon, and TADA! Youth Theatre.

Emily Joy Weiner is the Co-Founder and Artistic Director of Houses on the Moon Theater Company. Since its inception in 2001, Emily has led Houses through the creation and development of multiple new works that explore our social climate and address the complex and sensitive issues of our time. In most recent years Emily wrote and performed in the Off Broadway premiere of SHARED SENTENCES that explores the lives of family members and loved ones of the incarcerated, directed THE SANTA CLOSET at Teatro Circulo, THE ASSIGNMENT at the ART/New York Theatres and the touring storytelling production of gUN COUNTRY.
Houses on the Moon is a home for unheard stories. Our projects begin with relationship building, collaboration, and partnership with grassroots community organizations to identify an urgent social need; a vital untold story that must be heard. Our creation process includes extensive research, first-person storytelling workshops, and interviews, and our work is presented Off Broadway as well as in non-traditional spaces throughout New York City, the US, and internationally. Houses on the Moon collaborates with communities to theatrically amplify their untold stories, create awareness, offer support, and ultimately foster a more empathetic world. www.housesonthemoon.org
